| choice of materials to use. 304 stainless steel will not hold up to the temperatures it will be exposed to in a turbo exhaust manifold application. 304SS has good corrosion resistance at temperatures up to around 1200F but it is not suitable for high temp applications such as manifolds. 321SS is a significantly more suitable material to use as it has excellent corrosion resistance up to 1600F - a product of the addition of titanium to the alloy composition. It is more costly than 304 but a good midrange price when comparing to the price of Inconel. I wouldn't mention any of this if you were just buying an ebay manifold for your engine for $100 made from 304. But if you are going to take the time to build your own, do yourself an emotional favor and build it to last. Nothing worse than spending 40-60 hours on a single part just to have it come apart after pnly three months of finally enjoying your creation. Especially with something that will be so visible in the engine bay that you will want to call your own for as long as you can... :)
